Welcome to the Faculty: Judge Wendell Griffen
We welcome Judge Wendell Griffen as a visiting Professor for the Spring semester. Judge Griffen has had a distinguished career in private practice, public service, and on the bench. The law school faculty, staff, and students are glad that he choose to join us this spring. Judge Griffen will be teaching two courses: Criminal Procedure: Pre-trial and a seminar on The Law and Cultural Competence.
Judge Griffen, who served on the Arkansas Court of Appeals for many years, received his J.D. from the UA-Fayetteville School of Law in 1979. He was Associate Editor of the Arkansas Law Review. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the same institution, and he was named a distinguished military graduate.
Before law school, the Judge served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1976 and was honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
Griffen was a partner with Wright, Lindsey and Jennings from 1979 to 1995. From 1985 to 1987, he was the Chair of the Arkansas Workers Compensation Commission.
Judge Griffen has published articles in scholarly journals on subjects ranging from the inclusion of religious values in judicial decision-making to judicial independence and accountability to questions of race, law, and culture. He has lectured throughout the United States on workplace diversity and legal professionalism.
An ordained Baptist minister, Judge Griffen has been involved in numerous civic and charitable activities.
