The University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law seeks to attract highly qualified applicants from diverse backgrounds who will make positive contributions to the law school and ultimately to the legal profession and society.
Bowen takes a “holistic” approach to admissions, meaning the Admissions Committee assesses a wide array of applicant factors. For most applicants, the personal statement, LSAT score(s), and UGPA will form the bases of our decisions. Bowen also values inclusion and is committed to enrolling students of diverse ethnicities, life experiences, and professional backgrounds.
Admission to Bowen is competitive. Our admit rate is typically around 25%. Bowen utilizes a “rolling” admissions process where applicants are considered for admission as their application files become “complete.” In our process, earlier applicants tend to have an advantage over later applicants. We begin making offers of admission in October of each year, and continue until all seats in the class are filled. We will not consider an applicant until he/she has submitted all required documents.
The application deadline is April 15. However, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all required documents by January 15. Applications received (or rendered complete) after April 15 are considered on a space-available basis. Such applications are rarely considered.
There is no fee to apply to Bowen. First-year students are enrolled in the fall only and must have received their baccalaureate degrees by registration.
A "complete" application file consists of the following three items:
1. Completed Application Form
Applications may be submitted online using the LSAC online application or by hard-copy. We prefer online applications. The online application form can be accessed here.
2. Personal Statement
Personal statements should be 1000-1200 words and discuss your reasons for wanting to attend law school and why Bowen interests you. Other information about your background, life experiences, diversity, and/or volunteer work should also be provided. It is particularly important for non-residents to discuss “Why Bowen?” in their statements.
3. Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS) Law School Report
The Law School Report must include copies of transcripts for all post-secondary academic work undertaken, Law School Admission Test (LSAT) score information, and a copy of the LSAT writing sample(s). Letters of recommendation are not required, but applicants are welcome to submit up to three as part of their Law School Report. For more information about LSDAS and the LSAT, please visit www.lsac.org.
